Fact - Lake Lure has been voted one of the best lake towns in North America by Southern Living Magazine in 2022!

This resort community in Western North Carolina was the vision of Dr. Lucius B. Morse. Poor health brought Dr. Morse to the hickory Nut Gorge.   From Chimney Rock in the early nineteen hundreds, the vision of a lake and a resort development was spawned by him. The resort was tdeveloped by Chimney Rock Mountains, Inc. and the centerpiece of this resort was to be a lake The lake was created by damming the Rocky Broad River at Tumbling Shoals.  The lake was named Lake Lure by Dr. Morse's wife, Elizabeth Parkenson.
